Founded to honor individuals and organizations making a profound impact on Boston’s communities, The Newbury Cup is a civic-minded nonprofit initiative that shines a light on those quietly doing the work that matters most.

Each year, The Newbury Cup selects a theme based on a critical area of community need—ranging from homelessness and mental health to senior care and child advocacy. Three exceptional Boston-based nonprofits aligned with that theme are nominated by members, and through a public vote, one is awarded a generous donation to advance their mission.

To date, The Newbury Cup has donated nearly $200,000 directly to local charities and has helped amplify their visibility citywide. Presented in the spirit of the hotel’s storied tradition of afternoon tea, The Newbury Cup champions the power of service, civic leadership, and community. 100% of proceeds from the event—raised through the generosity of guests and partners—go directly to the winning nonprofit.

proudly partnering + supporting

Samaritans – providing lifesaving suicide prevention services and emotional support

Women’s Lunch Place – offering shelter, meals, and advocacy to women experiencing homelessness or poverty

Ethos – promoting independence, dignity, and well-being for Boston’s older adults and adults with disabilities

Massachusetts Advocates for Children – protecting and promoting the rights of children facing barriers to education and opportunity

Now entering its fifth year in 2025, The Newbury Cup continues to grow as a powerful, community-driven force for good. The initiative culminates in a celebratory Newbury Cup Award Ceremony & Afternoon Tea at The Newbury Boston—bringing together city leaders, supporters, and visionaries to honor the spirit of service and generosity. This year's theme is Women's Health.

The Newbury Boston is one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

The hotel is known for its timeless elegance, impeccable service, and rich history at the heart of Back Bay. As the gracious host of the annual Newbury Cup Tea Ceremony, the hotel generously underwrites the event each year—making it possible for us to donate 100% of proceeds directly to the winning charity. Their continued partnership reflects a shared commitment to community, philanthropy, and celebrating the spirit of giving in Boston.

“The Newbury Cup’s gift went far beyond funding—it gave our community hope. Knowing that so many people cared about our mission reminded the women we serve that they are not forgotten, and that together, we can create real change.”

“Thanks to The Newbury Cup, we were able to reach more families during one of their most difficult seasons. The generosity, paired with the compassion behind it, has lifted spirits and reminded us all of the power of community.”
